One of the most common type of questions in MBA entrance exams are market share based questions. In these questions the candidates will have to answer questions based on the sales data of two or more years. To solve such questions our expert shares –

Secret 1 – When all companies grow by same % in a market, there will be no change in their market shares.

Let us understand this with an example –

Secret 2 – Change in market share of the company occurs when:

  • The increase in the sales of the company is more than the average increase in sales of the industry – Leads to increase in the market share.
  • The increase in the sales of the company is equal to the average increase in sales of the industry – Leads to no change in the market share.
  • The increase in the sales of the company is less than the average increase in sales of the industry – Leads to decrease in the market share.

Secret 3 - Another common questions in the MBA entrance exams are based on averages. Observe and learn how averages change due to addition or subtraction of a unit –

  • If a unit with value higher than the average is entering into the group, the average of the group will increase.
  • If a unit with value lower than the average is entering into the group, the average of the group will decrease.
  • If a unit with value higher than the average is leaving the group, the average of the group will decrease.
  • If a unit with value lower than the average is leaving the group, the average of the group will increase.
