IIM Ahmedabad has appointed Professor Errol D’Souza as its interim director effective from September 2, 2017. The search committee is still on the lookout for a new director to replace Ashish Nanda who handed over an early resignation in April this year and is expected to vacate office on 1 September 2017. Professor Nanda was the first professor from a foreign institute to head an IIM. He was appointed for a term of five years but is abdicating office within four years of his appointment.
The search committee headed by Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, in a meeting with Board of Governors selected the interim director. Professor D’Souza will serve as the interim director until the search committee appoints a new director. Currently, he is teaching economics and is the Dean of the Faculty at IIM Ahmedabad. He obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He is on the Academic Council of TISS and the Institute for Human Development(Delhi). He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the International Centre for Development and Decent Work at Kassel, Germany.
